Kazakhstan plans to create a single operator with Russia and Turkmenistan within the framework of the International Transport Corridor North-South, the press service of the Mazhilis of Kazakhstan reported on Monday.
Introducing tariff discounts of up to 50% and other measures will increase the corridor’s capacity from 23 to 33 trains per day, while boosting cargo volumes to 20 million tons annually.
According to the statement, construction will begin in 2027 on a 736 km road between Beineu and Sekseul, which will reduce the distance to the ports of Aktau, Kurik, and Turkmenistan by 900 km.
North-South is an international transport corridor connecting Russia with the Persian Gulf through Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan. It includes railway, road, and sea routes, ensuring efficient cargo transit between Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.
