Kazakhstan continues large-scale modernization of automobile border checkpoints on its borders with several countries, including Turkmenistan. The updates affect 9 checkpoints on the borders with China, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan, official media of Turkmenistan reported on Friday.
As part of the current work, officials plan to significantly increase the capacity of the checkpoints. They will now serve up to six trips a day, raising the number of passing vehicles from 170 to 960.
One of the key benefits of the modernization will be a reduction in border crossing time to 30 minutes. They expect to complete the work by 2025.
Additionally, all 10 vehicle checkpoints located on the external border of the Eurasian Economic Union have implemented an electronic queue system. This innovation eliminates the need for physical lines, improves traffic flow, and ensures transparency in transportation processes.
Earlier, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed the law on ratifying the agreement between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan regarding the delimitation of the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan state border and the division of adjacent fishing zones in the Caspian Sea.
