Turkmenistan’s national airline, Turkmenistan Airlines, will launch a new international route connecting Incheon, Ashgabat and Istanbul starting on July 14. The flight will operate once a week on Mondays, Turkmenistan’s official media reported Friday.
The new service links Incheon with Istanbul via Ashgabat, a key hub in Central Asia, drawing industry interest for its potential to boost passenger and cargo flows between Asia, the Middle East and Europe.
Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan — a neutral nation in Central Asia — is historically located on the ancient Silk Road and is now an emerging energy and infrastructure center.
The launch marks the first aviation project since South Korea and Turkmenistan upgraded their ties to a “reciprocal partnership” during a summit in June 2024.
Beyond aviation, the two countries plan to expand cooperation in sectors including natural gas, plant engineering, IT, transportation, textiles and sustainability. The new route is expected to offer more options for travelers, businesspeople and trade representatives seeking to connect with Central Asia, the Middle East and Europe.
Tickets are available through Turkmenistan Airlines’ official distributor in Korea, PAA.
