Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan discussed expanding shipments of Kazakh wheat to the Turkmen market during talks between President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Turkmenistan's President Serdar Berdimuhamedov on Tuesday in Astana, the Kazakh president’s press service reported.
Tokayev highlighted significant potential to increase exports of vegetable oils, pasta and dairy products.
The two sides also discussed constructing a grain terminal on the Turkmen-Afghan border to facilitate trade.
According to Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Agriculture, agricultural trade between the two countries reached $103 million in the first nine months of this year, up 37.5% from the same period last year.
Agricultural exports totaled $70 million, a 70% increase. The main growth came from grains: high-quality wheat shipments rose 1.5 times, and flour exports quadrupled.
