Ceremonial events are being held across Turkmenistan to mark the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945, a holiday widely observed by the Turkmen people.

Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov extended congratulations to the Turkmen people on Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War, according to official Turkmen media reports published Saturday.

The head of state said Victory Day is a great celebration of peace and friendship. According to the Turkmen president, events dedicated to the occasion in 2026, declared the Year of “Independent neutral Turkmenistan — the homeland of purposeful winged horses,” will continue to strengthen national unity, solidarity and pride in the homeland and peaceful life.

The Turkmen president emphasized that humanity faced unprecedented hardships and heavy losses during the 1941–1945 war years.

Serdar Berdimuhamedov said the people of Turkmenistan, together with other fraternal nations united as one force, demonstrated heroism in the fight against fascism, inscribing their feats in history in golden letters. According to the head of state, thousands of compatriots became examples of exceptional courage, humanity and unwavering patriotism in the name of peace and friendship throughout the world.

Veterans of the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945 in Ashgabat, Arkadag and Turkmenistan’s provinces are receiving monetary awards and valuable gifts on behalf of the president. Flower-laying ceremonies at the Halk Hakydasy Memorial Complex and festive musical events are also being held across the country to mark Victory Day.
