Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan held political consultations at the level of foreign ministers on Tuesday, focusing on future cooperation between the two governments in ensuring international information security, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan reported.
The Turkmen delegation was led by Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov, while the Uzbek delegation was led by Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov. The sides discussed political and diplomatic relations, as well as cooperation within international and regional organizations, including the United Nations, the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Economic Cooperation Organization and the Non-Aligned Movement.

During the consultations, particular attention was paid to diversifying bilateral trade, expanding investment cooperation, developing new international transport corridors and improving logistics infrastructure. The sides also discussed future cooperation in industry, agriculture, energy and the digital economy.
The sides emphasized the need to improve the effectiveness of the Joint Turkmen-Uzbek Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation. They also noted that mutual high-level visits, meetings and talks are a key factor in strengthening cooperation.
The same day was held ceremony for the signing of bilateral documents aimed at significantly strengthening the legal framework for interstate cooperation. The signed documents included an agreement between the governments of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan on cooperation in ensuring international information security and a 2027-2028 cooperation program between the foreign ministries of the two countries.
