The Foreign Ministries of Turkmenistan and Tajikistan signed a Cooperation Program for 2027-2028 during Turkmen-Tajik political consultations held Aug. 20, 2026, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the ministry reported Thursday.
The consultations, held at the level of the foreign ministers of Turkmenistan and Tajikistan, covered a broad range of issues on the bilateral agenda. The sides paid particular attention to further improving mechanisms for political and diplomatic cooperation.
According to the report, the sides also highlighted the effectiveness of cooperation within the United Nations. Tajikistan has co-sponsored more than 30 resolutions adopted on Turkmenistan’s initiative.

The consultations also covered opportunities to expand trade and economic cooperation. The sides noted the steady growth in trade between the two countries and discussed prospects for expanding cooperation in energy, transport and communications, agriculture, trade and investment.
The sides also noted that the 14th meeting of the Turkmen-Tajik Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic and Scientific-Technical Cooperation and the second meeting of the Turkmen-Tajik Business Council were held in Dushanbe this year.
The consultations also included an exchange of views on cultural and humanitarian cooperation and joint events planned for the future. The sides reaffirmed their readiness to strengthen friendly Turkmen-Tajik relations and continue an effective dialogue.
