The President of the United States Donald Trump reiterated the U.S support for the proposed Trans-Caspian gas pipeline to transport natural gas from Turkmenistan to European Union countries.

In his congratulatory letter addressed to the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on the occasion of the International Day of Novruz, the U.S. President Donald Trump expressed hope that Turkmenistan will take advantage of new opportunities to deliver Turkmen natural gas to the Western market.

The letter was published by Turkmenistan newspaper on Monday.

“I wish You, Your family and the people of Turkmenistan happy and blissful Novruz holiday,” the letter says. “On these solemn days, many people in the United States of America and around the world celebrate the holiday of renewal and revival”.

In his letter, Trump stressed that “the people of the U.S. and its business circles continue to look for new directions to strengthen economic cooperation with Turkmenistan”.

“I hope that Turkmenistan will take advantage of new possibilities of exporting gas to the West in connection with the recent determination of the legal status of the Caspian Sea in connection with the recent determination of the legal status of the Caspian Sea”, Trump stated in his message.

The Convention on the legal status of the Caspian Sea, signed at the Fifth Caspian Summit in Aktau, Kazakhstan, on 12 August 2018 by the presidents of Turkmenistan, Russia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Iran, removes a legal barrier to building a gas pipeline on the bed of the sea.

Considered as a natural eastward extension of the Southern Gas Corridor (SGC), the 300-km Trans-Caspian Pipeline’s projected capacity is 30 bcm of Turkmen gas per year for at least 30 years with its transfer from the Turkmen coast of the Caspian Sea to the Azerbaijani coast and further to the EU countries via 3,500 kilometers SGC pipelines.

Turkmenistan is famous by its colossal gas resources taking the fourth place in the world by volumes.
