With the purpose to increase the volume of bilateral cargo turnover, Uzbekistan opened a new train station - Surhanabad - on the border with Turkmenistan, the press service of Uzbekistan Railways reports.
According to the information, the new station will perform export-import operations for cargo transportation. The new road and railway bridges were built over the Amu Darya River in 2017. The Heads of the States had attended the grand opening ceremony.
The new bridges have provided great opportunities for increasing cargo flow between two countries.
The new station is seen as a "new gate" linking two countries and another opportunity to further strengthen trade and economic relations between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
"The purpose of the new station is also to support small and medium-sized enterprises. Above all, the station will encourage stronger friendly relations between people of the two neighbouring countries," Uzbekistan Railways noted in its statement.
