President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Turkmenistan Matthew Stephen Klimov on Wednesday. The Ambassador presented his credentials to the President of Turkmenistan.
The diplomat conveyed to the Head of State the greetings of President Donald Trump. Congratulating the ambassador on his appointment to a responsible diplomatic post, the Head of State wished success in his efforts to strengthen Turkmen-American cooperation.
An integral aspect of interstate relations is also the partnership in ensuring peace, regional and global security, and countering the challenges and threats of our time. In this context, the sides noted the role of peace-loving policy pursued by neutral Turkmenistan, which is an important factor in strengthening stability and creating conditions for sustainable development in Central Asia, as well as the importance of constructive initiatives put forward by the President of Turkmenistan in the field of energy security, international cooperation in the transport and communications sector and in other relevant areas.
The sides also noted the significant contribution of Turkmenistan to the peaceful settlement of the situation in Afghanistan, the socio-economic revival of the neighboring state, which is embodied in specific infrastructure projects, such as the construction of the transnational TAPI gas pipeline.
At the end of the meeting, the President of Turkmenistan and the US Ambassador Matthew Stephen Klimov expressed confidence that the Turkmen-American relations will continue to develop successfully.
Ambassador Klimow served as Senior Advisor in the Office of the Under Secretary for Management at the United States Department of State. Other recent assignments include Senior Advisor to the Director General of the Foreign Service and Senior Advisor in the Office of Overseas Employment.
From 2012 to 2015, Ambassador Klimow served as a Deputy Assistant Secretary General of NATO in Brussels, Belgium. Other diplomatic assignments include Executive Director for the Bureaus of Administration and Information Resource Management (2010-2012), Director of Language Services (2008-2010), and Executive Director for the Bureau of Consular Affairs (2003-2008). Ambassador Klimow served on the White House staff as Special Advisor to the Vice President of the United States (2002 to 2003) and as military advisor to the Secretary of State (1995-1998).
