Ferhar economic society has started preparations for the next banana harvesting season at the company’s greenhouse complex located in the Sakarchage etrap of Mary velayat. The first crop was harvested from the plant last year. Ferhar expects to harvest tons of the exotic fruit during the next season.
In an unusual experiment, Ferhar is growing finger banana which is the most suitable variety of banana for the climate of Turkmenistan. The size of the greenhouse was decided according to the height of the tropical tree.
At present time, greenhouse farmers are working to increase the volume of second harvest. During the season, tons of bananas are collected per week.
Initially, Ferhar planted 2,000 banana seedlings, of which 1,800 have already taken root. Despite the loss of planted vegetation on average 10 percent due to the region's soil-climatic conditions, the germination and fertility of the banana in the Murgab oasis is promising.
