Makhachkala International Commercial Seaport has begun transshipment of potatoes on Wednesday, the first vessel is ready to be shipped to Turkmenistan, TASS reports citing the port’s press service.
Director General of the Makhachkala port Murad Hydyrov said the potatoes from North Ossetia were delivered to the port by trucks in bags and loaded onto the Balkan tanker, adding that the “weight of the export cargo is more than 2 thousand tons”.
“The port has a full range of technological equipment for export-import operations,” Hydyrov said. “Another vessel, Turkmenistan, is waiting for a mooring command on the roadstead. It will be loaded with more than 3 thousand tons of potatoes".
According to the report, the vessels final destination is Turkmenbashi International Seaport.
The Director General said the port "will continue to expand mutually beneficial economic contacts with entrepreneurs from Turkmenistan".
“Last year, in particular, more than 2 million tons of oil and oil products were shipped from Turkmenistan,” Hydyrov noted, adding that in 2020, the port expects to significantly increase the transshipment volumes of the Turkmen oil products.
Makhachkala International Commercial Seaport, located on the western coast of the Caspian Sea, is the only year-round open port of Russia in Caspian Sea.
