Farmers in Turkmenistan’s northern velayat of Dashoguz started sowing rice on 8,100 hectares of land. The agrarians intend to harvest 35,000 tons of rice from the land plots this year.

Almost all of the area for rice cultivation is located in the velayat’s S.Turkmenbashi etrap, which has all the necessary conditions for bulk production of rice and a modern rice mill. The mill delivers high quality rice to consumers and provides seeding material to specialized farms.

The farmers grow Nukus 2, Munbashy and Alenga varieties of rice, which have highly recommended themselves in local soil and climate conditions.

Rice cultivation is one of main areas of agriculture sector of Dashoguz velayat, as the climatic conditions of the region contribute to good rice growth and its rich harvest.

In recent years, private businesses have also become increasingly involved in rice cultivation. The commissioned rice mill of the businessman Timur Rejepov with annual capacity of 250 tons is a prime example of such activity.

In April of this year, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov signed the Resolution on rice production in Turkmenistan in 2020.
