Businessman in Northern Turkmenistan Grows Potatoes on 600 Hectares
Mostly Gala and Sante varieties of potatoes are planted in Dashoguz velayat.

Businessman Dovran Esenov grows Gala variety of potatoes on nearly 600 hectares of land in N.Andalib farmers' associations in Turkmenistan’s northern velayat of Dashoguz’s Gurbanansoltan Eje etrap.

The businessman expects to harvest over 8 thousand tons of potatoes from the fields.

According to Esenov, Gala potatoes are characterized by high productivity, suitability for local climatic conditions, quick ripening, resistance to most diseases and low starch content.

Besides the local varieties of potatoes, Dutch variety of potato Sante is also planted in Dashoguz. The variety is distinguished by its ability to vegetate at high air temperatures.

In total, over 2,100 hectares of agricultural land are allotted for the cultivation of potato in the etrap.

This year, the area allocated for potato production in the velayat increased to 4 thousand hectares. The velayat’s farmers expect to harvest 56 thousand tons of potatoes this year.
