Turkmen Agricultural Company Aims to Harvest 60 Tons of Bananas
Ferhar economic society harvested about 50 tons of bananas last year.

Ferhar economic society is planning to harvest around 60 tons of bananas from its greenhouse this year, Neytralnyi Turkmenistan newspaper reported on Thursday.

The company collected about 50 tons of bananas from its greenhouse, located in the Sakarchage etrap of the country’s Mary velayat.

Rejepgeldy Tashliyev, an Engineer-Technologist at Ferhar, said the Grand Nain banana variety is grown in the greenhouse. This banana variety quickly grows and begins to bloom in 8–9 months. The fruits fully ripen in 2.5–3 months.

“A banana tree is a perennial plant. As its ages, it decreases its productivity. In this case, it is cut off at the base. However, after this operation, the living root system of the tree necessarily gives a lot of new sprouts,” Tashliyev said.

The company employs 7 people.
