Turkmenistan, Italy to Expand Business Ties

During a telephone conversation on Thursday, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov proposed to President of Italy Sergio Mattarella to open a trade mission of Turkmenistan in Milan, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan (TDH) reports.

To strengthen trade and economic partnership, Turkmen President also proposed creating a Turkmen-Italian Business Council or a relevant Working Group, and to hold the Days of Italian Economy in Turkmenistan annually.

During the conversation, the Heads of State specified the key vectors of cooperation, identifying among them the trade-economic sphere. In this regard, it was noted that Italy is the largest economic partner of Turkmenistan among European states.

The parties also discussed a number of promising joint projects, including the creation of an enterprise in Turkmenistan for the production of solar panels, the production of ceramic products, and the establishment of wool processing using modern technologies in the country.

During the telephone conversation, The Presidents paid particular attention on the topic of humanitarian cooperation. It was emphasized that Italy and Turkmenistan have a rich historical and cultural heritage, which provides good preconditions for deepening a fruitful dialogue.

Focusing on cooperation in education sphere, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that Turkmenistan pays special attention to the study of the Italian language, which is taught today in two higher educational institutions on a systematic basis in the country.

The Head of Turkmenistan also invited his Italian counterpart to pay an official visit to Turkmenistan.

Highly assessing the level of the Turkmen-Italian cooperation, President Sergio Mattarella expressed his full support for the Turkmen President’s proposals to strengthen inter-MFA contacts, build up and diversify economic and humanitarian cooperation, organize cultural events, and deepen ties between universities of the countries.

Turkmenistan presently actively cooperates with such Italian companies as ENI and Leonardo.
