Last Friday, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to the Russian Federation Batyr Niyazliev met with the Governor of the Astrakhan region Igor Babushkin, the Turkmenistan’s Golden Age news outlet reported on Saturday.
During the meeting, both sides highly appreciated the dynamic development of trade and economic cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Astrakhan region, Russia, and noted $6.9 million mutual trade turnover since the beginning of this year.
The meeting allowed for a constructive exchange of views on the perspective partnership in transport and transit sphere taking into account the decision by Russian Government on the establishment of special economic zone in Astrakhan region. This zone is designed to become one of the major logistics hubs in the south of Russia. Officials also discussed the possibility of constructing vessels for Turkmenistan in shipbuilding facilities of Astrakhan.
The Governor expects to discuss the agenda for economic interaction during his visit to Turkmenistan, when the opportunity presents itself.
In addition, diplomats noted the availability of facilities for creating North-South transport and transit corridor through the territory of Turkmenistan. One of the elements of this project is the establishment of cargo and cruise communication along Volga River on the route Moscow-Astrakhan-Caspian States, said Babushkin.
On October 30 this year, Astrakhan will host the Caspian Media Forum dedicated to the ethnocultural relations.
