Turkmen Officials took part in the virtual expert group meeting on Climate Change mitigation and adaptation for transport in Asia and the Pacific, organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) on September 22-23.

According to the ESCAP, the meeting focused on the components of effective cooperation within the Commission, including in the context of achieving the tasks outlined in the Sustainable Development Goals in the fields of transport and the environment.

Representatives of the Türkmenawtoulaglary (Turkmen Motor Transport) and Türkmendeňizderýaýollary (Turkmen Sea and River Ways) agencies, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection took part in the meeting on behalf of the Turkmen side.

In the Asia-Pacific region, the transport sector accounts for 51.9 per cent of the total oil consumption and contributes to nearly 13.5 per cent of the total carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.
