During the first seven months of this year, the physical volume of tomato exports from Turkmenistan increased by 99% compared to the same period in 2019, Orient news outlet reported on Monday with reference to the State Statistics Committee of Turkmenistan.
According to the report, more than 29 thousand tons of tomatoes have been shipped abroad in January-July this year.
Turkmen farmers grow various fruitful varieties of tomatoes, including cherry tomatoes, Rugantino and Fulton, which have become very popular in the world. Russia remains the main importer of Turkmen tomatoes.
Tomatoes in Turkmenistan are grown all year round in greenhouses. Local enterprises purchase equipment for these purposes mainly in European countries and Turkey. The increase in tomato exports demonstrates a steady growth in this area of agriculture, according to the news outlet.
Construction of new greenhouses is underway in different parts Turkmenistan. At the end of last year, Altyn Tug Individual Enterprise commissioned a 12-hectare large greenhouse in the S.A. Niyazov etrap, which is designed to grow three thousand tons of vegetables per year.
