Turkmenistan Plans to Deepen Trade, Economic Ties With Pakistan
The parties discussed the prospects for the development of trade and economic cooperation between Turkmenistan and Pakistan.

Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Pakistan Atajan Movlyamov held a meeting with the delegation led by the President of Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) of the city of Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan Sherbaz Ilyas Gazanfar Bilour on Monday at the Turkmen Embassy in Pakistan.

According to information on neutrality.gov.tm website, the Pakistani side was familiarized with the policy of positive neutrality of Turkmenistan, events in honor of the 25th anniversary of the permanent neutrality of the country, as well as with a virtual exhibition dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the permanent neutrality of Turkmenistan. In addition, videos and presentations were presented about trade-economic and oil and gas complexes, as well as about products manufactured for export in Turkmenistan.

The parties then discussed the prospects for the development of trade and economic cooperation between Turkmenistan and Pakistan.

Noting its great interest in developing trade cooperation with the countries of Central Asia, in particular with Turkmenistan, the Pakistani side emphasized the important role of the transport and transit corridor.

In this regard, the sides discussed the issue of preparing and concluding a Free Trade Agreement, which could create a transport-transit corridor Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan for convenient shipping of goods. It was noted that this corridor will create the possibility of access to the sea through the Pakistani ports of Gwadar and Karachi.

According to UrduPoint news outlet’s report, the both sides agreed to make joint efforts to remove obstacles in the way of bilateral trade and economic relations between the two countries.

SCCI head noted that Turkmenistan is highly rich in petroleum products, so it is a great opportunity for Pakistan to import petroleum products from Turkmenistan on cheap and in a short span of time.

In turn, the Turkmen Ambassador said his country is keen to further strengthen trade and economic relations with Pakistan. He emphasized that Pakistan and Turkmenistan businesses should take each other's experiences and play a role in improving trade ties by launching joint ventures and projects in multi-sectoral areas.
