Turkmenistan, Russia Ink Document on Cooperation in Electric-Power Industry
The Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation on cooperation in the area of electric-power industry was signed upon the outcomes of the meeting.

Co-chairmen of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Russian Commission on Economic Cooperation, the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and the Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Alexey Overchuk, held online talks on Wednesday.

According to Turkmen Foreign Ministry’s press release, the meeting was also attended by the management of a number of key ministries and departments of Turkmenistan and Russia.

The meeting participants discussed the current state and prospects of cooperation between the two countries. The sides reiterated the high level of Turkmen-Russian relations under the leadership of the Heads of State of Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation.

The state officials discussed the issues regarding the development of the legal-contractual basis of cooperation and considered the trade-economic partnership, the cooperation in the industrial, financial and banking spheres. The sides also discussed the joint activities in the sphere of geology.

The parties thoroughly discussed the cooperation in the area of combatting the novel coronavirus infection, including the exchange of experience between the specialized agencies, and analyzed the key aspects of collaboration in the education sphere, including the enhancement of the structure of the partnership.

The sides expressed hope for the next session of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Russian Commission on Economic Cooperation to be held in-person.

The same day, the chambers of commerce and industry of the two states held an online meeting focusing on the opportunities for Turkmen-Russian cooperation in technology and digital sectors.

The Turkmen delegation included heads and representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Türkmenaragatnaşyk (Turkmen communications) Agency and the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs.

The meeting participants exchanged views on the further development of mutually beneficial cooperation in digital communications and information spheres.
