Farmers in Turkmenistan’s Mary Strive For Rich Harvest of Lemons
Farmers presently grow 110 Daşkent-1 citrus trees in the greenhouse, which are ideally adapted to local soil and climate conditions.

The farmers of the Pendi farmers’ association of Mary velayat’s Tagtabazar etrap plan to harvest 4 tons of lemon this year.

According to Turkmenistan’s Maru-Şahu Jahan regional newspaper’s Saturday issue, the greenhouse currently grows 110 Daşkent-1 citrus trees, which are ideally adapted to local soil and climate conditions. The height of the tree reaches up to 3 meters.

For over 20 years, the farmers have been growing lemons in a greenhouse built in 1996, thereby contributing to the food security of the country.

In addition, the Pendi farmers’ association annually collects a rich harvest of cotton, wheat and melons.

Turkmen businesses have commissioned more than a hundred greenhouse farms with a total area of more than 356 hectares. Around 150 modern greenhouses with a total area of 1,300 hectares are expected to open next year.
