Turkmenistan in the first quarter of 2021 increased its electricity exports by 2.1 times compared to the same period last year, the Ashgabat-based Orient news outlet reported on Monday with reference to the State Statistics Committee of Turkmenistan.
One of the drivers for increasing exports was the launch of a 500 kW power transmission line from Turkmenistan’s Kerki city to Afghanistan’s Sheberghan city in January of this year, according to the report.
In January-March 2021, the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan increased the generation of electricity for domestic consumption by 6%, and for the external market - by 12.9%.
The Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan is currently working on the implementation of important investment projects, such as the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) power transmission line, the ring power transmission system along Ahal-Balkan and Balkan-Dashoguz routes, and a 432 MW gas turbine power plant in Charjev district of Lebap velayat.
