The Kantarell Ukraine trading company in mid-May imported 600 tons of Turkmen bitumen to the Ukrainian market, Argus Media reported last week citing the Director of the company Bekhan Elmurzayev. The product from Turkmenistan was imported to Ukraine for the first time.
Road bitumen grade 60/90 was delivered by ferry from the port of Turkmenbashi to the Azerbaijani port of Alyat. The bitumen was then transported via railroad to the Georgian port of Poti, and from there they were shipped by ferries to the port of Chornomorsk in Ukraine’s Odessa region.
Another 1-2 thousand tons of the Turkmen product will be shipped to Ukraine in May, according to the report. Until now, the main volumes of bitumen produced by the Turkmenbashi refinery have been exported to neighboring Uzbekistan. where 2-3 thousand tons/month of the product are sent.
In 2020, the volume of bitumen supplies to the Ukrainian market amounted to a 1.18 million tons.
