Taking into account the increasing number of internet users in Turkmenistan, works are presently underway in the country to reduce the cost of internet services.
During a meeting of Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan held online on Friday, Vice-Premier Bayramgeldi Ovezov reported to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on activities of the Türkmenaragatnaşyk Agency to modernize the internet system, the country’s official media reports.
The Vice-Premier highlighted the increasing number of internet users in the country, and the active use of the internet network at enterprises and institutions by businesses and educational institutions.
With the rising demand of users for high-speed internet, an increase in the transmission capacity of the internet is required, Bayramgeldi Ovezov noted during the meeting, adding that to this end, Türkmenaragatnaşyk (Turkmen Communications) Agency held an international tender.
The Vice-Premier stressed that the activities in this direction will reduce the prices of internet services, expand the sphere of digital education and digital medicine, e-commerce services, create modern information systems and introduce advanced technologies in all sectors of the economy.
Following the report, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted the ongoing comprehensive work in the country to digitize all sectors of the national economy and introduce scientific developments into production.
In order to popularize internet services, new internet plans were approved in February 2021, according to which their payment was reduced to 50%.
