Preparations Underway For Commissioning 432MW Power Plant in Turkmenistan’s Lebap

Preparations are ongoing for commissioning a 432MW gas turbine power plant in the Charjev etrap of Turkmenistan’s Lebap velayat. The commissioning works of the main installations are presently underway.

The Vice-Premier Charymyrat Purchekov reported on the preparations to President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov during an online meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on Friday, the country’s official media reports.

In his report, Purchekov said, to date, three gas turbines with a capacity of 144MW each have been installed at the plant, auxiliary facilities have been built and are ready for operation. The plant’s distribution installations, intended for the transmission of generated electricity, are connected to the country’s power system, according to the report.

The commissioning of the gas turbine power plant will contribute to the increase of the capacity of the country's energy system, improve the reliability and quality of electricity supply to consumers in the Lebap velayat, the Vice-Premier continued, adding that, it will expand the possibilities of exporting Turkmen electricity, primarily to neighboring countries – Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan and Iran.

Following the report, the Turkmen President emphasized the importance of the ongoing large-scale work to steadily build up the potential of the domestic electricity industry in order to ensure a stable and uninterrupted supply of electricity to domestic consumers, and increase its export volumes.

Japanese Sumitomo Corporation carries out the construction of the gas turbine power plant, which will open this year on occasion of the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's independence. The station is equipped with gas turbine equipment from another leading Japanese company – Mitsubishi Power Ltd.
