This year, agricultural producers of Turkmenistan have grown a rich harvest of gourds, fruits and vegetables, and legumes. The private sector played a major role in the development and strengthening of the agro-industrial complex.
According to the Union of Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan (UIET), private farms and business structures grow the lion’s share of food products. Turkmen businesses are working to increase food production by developing new irrigated lands, organizing planting of additional crops on these lands, planting fruit trees and grapes, and expanding the area of greenhouses. These measures allow to saturate the domestic market and increase export supplies.
Businesses of Turkmenistan have increased the supply of tomatoes. The export volume of these vegetable products has doubled compared to the previous year and amounted to more than 51 thousand tons. Many farms have built new greenhouses and grow tomatoes year-round using modern high-tech equipment and innovative plant care methods.
Private farms actively export melons and apples to the regions of the Russian Federation and the CIS countries. In the first half of the year, they have sold about three thousand tons of products grown in horticultural farms and 11.7 thousand tons of legumes.
The businesses have increased the production of confectionery and food products exported abroad by several times. This year, they have sold more than 1.7 thousand tons of sweet products, over 700 thousand packages of coffee drinks and about 500 thousand liters of bottled water and soft drinks.
