Transit of freight via Iran has increased by 94% during the fifth month of the current Iranian calendar year (July 23-August 22) compared to the same month last year, the Tehran Times daily reported on Tuesday with reference to Ruhollah Latifi, the Spokesperson of the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA).
Latifi said 974 thousand tons of cargo were transited through Iran during the month, while the figure was 501,000 tons in the same period last year.
According to IRICA Head Mehdi Mir-Ashrafi’s recent announcement, over 4.727 million tons of freight were transited through Iran in the first five months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21-August 22), registering a 95% rise compared to the same period of the preceding year.
Over 7.532 million tons of cargo were transited through Iran in the previous Iranian calendar year 1399, according to the report.
Iran is connected to 15 countries of the world through sea and land borders and is the passage of several international transport corridors.
