The new realities in Afghanistan require an approach free of ideological preferences, phobias and stereotypes, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said in his video address to the 76th United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday.

Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said the current situation in Afghanistan is not easy, and the emerging institutions of power and society are extremely fragile. The Turkmen Leader stressed the need for extreme consistency, prudence and responsibility – both in words and actions – in interpreting and assessing the situation in Afghanistan.

"When formulating approaches, we need to set aside ideological preferences, old grudges, phobias and stereotypes, thinking first and foremost about the Afghan people who are tired of wars and turmoil, and dream of a peaceful and calm life,” Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said in his address.

Ashgabat is deeply interested in political stability and security of Afghanistan, the well-being and unity of the Afghan people, according to the Turkmen Leader.

"We call for quick normalization of the situation in Afghanistan and express hope that new government institutions will operate effectively in the interests of all Afghan people," President Berdimuhamedov noted, adding that "Turkmenistan will continue to provide comprehensive economic support and humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan."

Turkmen Foreign Ministry in late August said Turkmenistan continues to ensure the uninterrupted operation of its checkpoints on the Turkmen-Afghan border, as well as the supply of electricity to Afghanistan in accordance with existing contracts.

In early September, Turkmenistan sent a humanitarian aid to Afghanistan, which became the first humanitarian delivery of the Turkmen side to Afghanistan after the recent developments on its territory.
