President of Iran Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi in an interview with a state TV channel of the country on Sunday highlighted the significance of the gas swap agreement signed between Turkmenistan, Iran and Azerbaijan in Ashgabat.
“This agreement will turn Iran into a gas transit hub of the region and promote the economic growth of all the three participating countries,” the IRNA news agency cites Raisi as saying during the interview.
According to Ebrahim Raisi, Iran has recently reached a number of agreements on cooperation with neighboring countries in transit and other fields and has signed contracts in this regard.
The President stated these documents are of great importance, adding that contracts with neighboring countries can contribute to economic development.
The tripartite gas swap agreement was signed on November 28 in Turkmenistan’s capital Ashgabat on the sidelines of the 15th Summit of Economic Cooperation Organization. Under the agreement, up to 2 billion cubic meters of gas will be annually transported from Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan through Iran.
