Turkmenistan will hold the extraordinary meeting of the Halk Maslahaty (People's Council) chamber of Milli Gengesh (National Council), the bicameral parliament of the country, in early February this year, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said during the online cabinet meeting on Friday.
We bear a huge responsibility for the fate of our state and the future of our descendants, the Turkmen Leader stated, stressing that we now face a big task of determining and drawing the main directions of development of the state and its institutions for the next 30 years.
In this regard, the Head of State proposed to hold an extraordinary meeting of the People's Council in early February to consider the country's development program for the next 30 years, sum up the results of activities in 2021 and outline the tasks for the current year.
The Turkmen President instructed Deputy Chairman of the Government Serdar Berdimuhamedov, Chairman of the Mejlis of Milli Gengesh Gulshat Mammedova and Deputy Chairman of Halk Maslahaty Kasymguly Babayev to ensure overall coordination of all work related to the extraordinary meeting.
The Turkmen Leader also instructed all Government members to prepare well for the upcoming meeting of the Halk Maslahaty.
The decision to switch to a bicameral parliamentary system in Turkmenistan was made in September 2020. Elections to the new constitutional body – Halk Maslahaty – were held on March 28.
In April, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov was elected as Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty chamber of Milli Gengesh.
