President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received on Monday Serdar Berdimuhamedov, the Deputy Chairman of Turkmen Government in charge of economic and financial issues, who is in Tashkent on a working visit.
At the beginning of the meeting, Mirziyoyev noted with particular satisfaction the steady enhancing of Uzbek-Turkmen relations of friendship, good neighborliness and strategic partnership in recent years, the Press Service of the Uzbek President said in its statement on the meeting.
"The high-ranking guest expressed sincere gratitude for the reception, conveyed cordial greetings and wishes on behalf of Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and handed over a written message of the Turkmen Leader, which highly appreciated the Turkmen-Uzbek ties that are dynamically developing in all directions. The Head of Turkmenistan emphasized the closeness and similarity of the two countries' positions on international politics and regional relations," the Uzbek President's Press Service said.
During the meeting, the sides reviewed the implementation of the agreements reached at the highest level.
Particular attention was paid to the issues of deepening interaction and practical steps to increase the volume of mutual trade, the implementation of new joint cooperation projects in industry, energy, water and agriculture, as well as the effective use of the transit potential of the two states, according to the statement.
The importance of promoting interregional relations and cultural and humanitarian exchange programs was also noted during the meeting.
In 2021, trade turnover between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan increased 65% to around $880 million.
