The Government of Turkmenistan considers to privatize numerous state-owned properties through auctions.
During the online cabinet meeting on Friday, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov was briefed on the steps being taken to improve the efficiency of state property management, development of small and medium-sized businesses and create an optimal business environment, the country’s official media reports.
The briefing was presented by the Deputy Chairman of the Government Hojamyrat Geldimyradov, who is in charge of economic and financial issues.
The Vice-Premier said the Ministry of Finance and Economy, with inputs from other government branches, analyzed state-owned enterprises subject to denationalization and privatization. He added that on its results, it is proposed to privatize a number of assets of State Committee for Water Resources of Turkmenistan, Turkmen State Publishing Service, administrations of Ashgabat city, and Lebap and Mary provinces will be privatized by auction.
Following the report, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov stated that one of the priority vectors of the economic strategy was radical reforms through the active introduction of effective economic methods, establishment of different ownership structures to manage the enterprises of the national economic complex, phased privatization of facilities.
The Turkmen President said the steps taken in this direction are designed to increase the share of the private sector of the national economy. Emphasizing the importance of ensuring constant monitoring of the tasks set, the President instructed the Vice Prime Minister to continue work in this area.
The cabinet meeting discussed priority issues of state affairs and considered drafts of a number of documents.
