Top Turkmen Diplomat Visits Japan, Discusses Trade-Economic Ties
The meetings took place within the framework Turkmen delegation’s visit to Japan’s capital Tokyo on December 21-24.

Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov in separate meetings with heads of Japanese trade and financial organizations on Wednesday discussed the development of trade-economic ties between the countries, according to the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan.

The meetings took place within the framework Turkmen delegation’s visit to Japan’s capital Tokyo on December 21-24.

In a meeting with the Chairman of the Nippon Export and Investment Insurance (NEXI) Atsuo Kuroda, which provides insurance coverage for financing joint economic projects implemented by the Japanese and Turkmen sides, the sides considered issues of partnership in the investment sphere and discussed new opportunities for cooperation, including activities of NEXI to attract various financial institutions to financing projects in Turkmenistan.

The sides confirmed mutual readiness to develop, diversify and expand bilateral relations.

During the talks between Rashid Meredov and the Head of Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) Nobumitsu Hayashi, the sides focused on the trade-economic relations and participation of Japanese companies in large-scale projects in Turkmenistan such as the ammonia and carbamide plant in Mary, the sulfuric acid plant in Turkmenabat, the carbamide plant in Karabogaz, the gas chemical complex in Kiyanly and the gasoline plant from natural gas in Ovadandepe.

The sides also held a constructive exchange of views on priority joint projects in gas chemical, transport and agriculture sectors to be implemented in Turkmenistan.

As part of the visit, the Turkmen delegation will take part in the 14th joint meeting of the Japan-Turkmen and Turkmen-Japan committees on economic cooperation, the Turkmen Foreign Minister will participate in the 9th meeting of foreign ministers of the dialogue Central Asia + Japan and hold meetings in the government, parliament, relevant ministries and departments of Japan.
