Just two weeks after two devastating earthquakes in Türkiye, another powerful earthquake of 6.4 magnitude hit the country’s Hatay province near the Syrian border on Monday, according the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD).
The epicenter of the earthquake was the Defne district, according to the AFAD website.
Another magnitude 5.8 earthquake epicentered in Hatay’s Samandag district shook the area just a few minutes after the magnitude 6.4 quake. According to the Turkish media reports, some buildings damaged in the two major earthquakes two weeks ago have been destroyed in the province.
Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay said authorities were scanning the area, as he urged all citizens to stay away from damaged buildings.
The two earthquakes were also felt in Syria, Egypt, Lebanon, Iraq, Palestine and Jordan.
As per latest AFAD data, two major earthquakes that hit Türkiye on February 6 killed more than 41 thousand people.
