China imported Turkmen gas for $4.25 billion in January-May this year, China's General Administration of Customs reported on Tuesday.

According to the report, the figure is about 13.5% more compared to the same period last year.

Turkmenistan exported about 2.9 billion cubic meters of natural gas to China in March this year.

Turkmenistan currently exports natural gas to China via three pipelines passing along the Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Kazakhstan-China route. The pipeline system is capable of transporting 55 bcm of gas a year, with the majority of the supplies provided by Turkmenistan and the rest provided by Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
