Turkmenistan Commences Construction of Gumdag-Etrek-Iran Border Road

Turkmenistan's State Agency for Road Construction Management and Iran's Ministry of Road and Urban Construction have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation to construct the Gumdag-Etrek-Iran border road.

The document was signed on Saturday at the Turkmen-Iranian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation meeting in Ashgabat, the Turkmen official media reports.

At the meeting, the heads and representatives of several government bodies and business groups from both countries emphasised the positive momentum in expanding cooperation in priority areas. Additionally, the sides confirmed their willingness to deepen ties in fuel and energy, transportation and communication, construction and infrastructure, customs and border regulations, industry, agriculture and water management, and engineering and technical advancements.

Furthermore, the meeting also led to the signing of a Framework Agreement between the State Electricity Corporation Türkmenenergo, Tanawir and Sanergy Pishro Export and Energy Promotion Company to establish financing for the Turkmen part of the Mary (Turkmenistan) - Mashhad (Iran) power transmission line.
