Ukrainian Company Proposes to Build Metro System in Ashgabat
Ashgabat, Turkmenistan

The Ukrainian company SAI Interbudmontazh has presented a project for building a metro system in Ashgabat, which could eventually connect the capital with the "smart city" of Arkadag, as well as Gokdepe and Anev. Vladimir Petruk, Managing Director of the company, introduced the initiative at the CIET 2024 conference.

According to a report from News Central Asia on Monday, the company has involved Japanese firm Sumitomo, the Japan Subway Association, and the German consulting group K2 in developing both the idea and the technological aspects of the project. K2 assessed the engineering feasibility of the metro in a seismic zone.

However, Petruk noted that the metro construction could take a significant amount of time. From the start of work to the launch of individual sections, the process may take at least 10 years.

In closing his speech, Vladimir Petruk confirmed that SAI Interbudmontazh is ready to continue its cooperation with Turkmenistan. He emphasized the company's commitment to investing knowledge and resources into the development of the country's infrastructure and the creation of a comfortable urban environment.

SAI Interbudmontazh has been operating in Turkmenistan since 2001 and has implemented large-scale projects, including the groundwater lowering system in Ashgabat. Petruk mentioned that the company continues to work closely with city authorities and will soon launch new stages of the project, expanding it to residential areas such as Gurtly-Koshi, Choganly-Garadamak-Shor, and other districts.
