Turkmenistan Intends to Launch Second National Satellite

Turkmenistan's next steps include the launch of a second national communications satellite to improve the quality of telecommunications services, said Batyr Annaev, Deputy General Director of Turkmenistan's Transport and Communications Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers, at a meeting of ministers of Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC) held in Yerevan, Armenia, on  December 14-15 this year.

At a session dedicated to transforming global trade and connectivity through digital technologies, Batyr Annayev announced the country's intention to strengthen innovation and technology, transport and logistics infrastructures and integration of banking solutions, the agency's press service reported on Monday.

Plans also include the activation of free economic zones and the creation of industrial clusters to stimulate diversity in the economic structure, as well as a significant increase in investment in research and development projects, the Deputy Director General of the Agency added.

The Ministerial Meeting of Landlocked Developing Countries gathered delegations from more than 30 countries and representatives of international organisations. The meeting is a preparatory phase ahead of the Third Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC) Conference to be held in the Rwandan capital of Kigali in June 2024.
