United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the State Committee for Water Management of Turkmenistan the grand opening of a new metering system to measure water flow along the banks of the Karakum Canal on May 2, 2024.
According to the press release of the U.S. Embassy in Turkmenistan, U.S. Ambassador to Turkmenistan Matthew Klimow and representatives from the State Committee for Water Management of Turkmenistan participated in the launch of this system.
Data from this system will be available in real-time, enabling the State Committee for Water Management to plan more accurately for water distribution for agriculture, drinking water needs, and industry.
The system was installed by Bosfor Public Association in Ashgabat jointly with the Garagumderýasuwhojalyk Association, who received a grant from USAID Central Asia’s Regional Water and Vulnerable Environment Activity.
USAID's efforts focus on strengthening regional capacity to manage shared water resources and mitigating environmental risks in the Syr Darya and Amu Darya river basins.
