Turkmenistan and Afghanistan Aim to Increase Transit Transport

The Consul General of Turkmenistan in Herat, Batyr Yolov, met with the Governor of Herat province Noor Mohammad Islamjar on Tuesday to discuss expanding transit between the two countries.

According to Bakhtar News Agency, the Turkmen diplomat emphasized Turkmenistan's readiness to facilitate daily passage of 120 trucks carrying commercial goods through the Torghundi border crossing. He also announced the completion of repair works at the Noor ul-Jihad substation.

In response, the provincial governor expressed interest in exporting Afghan fruits, vegetables, and dried products to Turkmenistan.

The Consul General of Turkmenistan in Herat praised efforts by Herat officials to enhance trade ties between the countries and expressed readiness for cooperation in these areas.

In May of this year, a Turkmen delegation led by Nokerguly Atagulyyev, Chairman of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan, met with Afghanistan's Minister of Industry and Trade, Nooruddin Azizi, during their visit to Herat. Following the meeting, the sides signed 10 contracts and 2 commercial memoranda.
