Turkmenistan's Ambassador to Ukraine, Toyly Atayev, met with Professor Mykola Vaskiv, Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Ukrainian Studies of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, and laureate of the “Magtymguly Pyragynyň 300 Ýyllygyna” jubilee medal, on Monday, as reported by the Turkmen Embassy in Ukraine.
The medal, established by President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov in honor of the 300th anniversary of the great poet Magtymguly Pyragy, was awarded to Vaskiv for his significant contributions to the study and promotion of the poet’s legacy, as well as for his efforts to strengthen cultural and friendly relations with Turkmenistan.
The award ceremony took place on October 10, 2024, at the Magtymguly Turkmen State University in Ashgabat during the International Forum “The Interconnection of Times and Civilizations – the Foundation of Peace and Development,” dedicated to the anniversary of Magtymguly Pyragy.
Professor Vaskiv received the medal from the Chairwoman of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, Dunyagozel Gulmanova, alongside other foreign laureates.
Vaskiv, the author of the Ukrainian edition Magtymguly Pyragy. Revelation and several scientific works about the poet’s life, was honored for his role in advancing cultural cooperation between Turkmenistan and Ukraine.
During the meeting, Toyly Atayev congratulated the professor on the well-deserved award, highlighting his efforts in popularizing Magtymguly Pyragy’s works and strengthening the friendship between the two nations.
The meeting was also attended by Viktor Zelensky, publisher of Magtymguly Pyragy. Revelation, who expressed his commitment to continuing the promotion of Turkmen literature to Ukrainian readers, including works about the culture and traditions of the Turkmen people.
