Russian companies are interested in establishing a direct flight route between Astrakhan and Turkmenbashi, Deputy Minister of Economic Development Dmitry Volvach stated following a meeting of the Russian-Turkmen Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation, as reported by TASS on Thursday.
Companies are also exploring avenues to enhance collaboration in e-commerce, transportation, and Caspian Sea cruise routes, with stops in Caspian ports, including Turkmenistan.
Trade turnover between Russia and Turkmenistan rose by 47.9% in the first eight months of 2024 compared to the same period last year. Russian exports grew mainly through agricultural products and metal goods, while Turkmenistan saw increases in textile, food, and agricultural raw material exports, Volvach noted.
Additionally, Russia invited Turkmenistan to join the CIS agreement on duty-free trade in services to sustain the strong growth in bilateral trade.
Earlier, Astrakhan authorities designated a 20-hectare area within the Lotos special economic port zone for a Turkmenistan logistics center.
