Turkmenistan Opens Upgraded Customs Complex in Farap
Opening of the upgraded customs complex in Farap, December 4, 2024, Lebap velayat.

On the 29th anniversary of Turkmenistan's neutrality, authorities completed the modernization of the Farap Road customs checkpoint, located on the border with Uzbekistan, as reported in the Thursday edition of the newspaper Türkmenistan.

The new complex meets international standards and will become an important hub for transit between Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and other countries in the region.

Sapaly Geljek carried out the modernization work. The construction included new buildings, such as the main building covering 456 square meters, cargo processing facilities, and areas for vehicle inspections. The checkpoint's total area increased from 5.2 to 10 hectares, significantly expanding its capacity.

The modernization also involved the installation of new equipment for road transport, which increased the checkpoint's capacity from 250 to 500 vehicles per day in each direction. The complex can now handle up to 1,000 vehicles daily.

The complex is equipped with modern technologies for handling cargo and features a Single Window system to expedite export and import procedures. Border, sanitary, veterinary, and migration service staff received new workspaces.

The project was implemented as part of Turkmenistan's state program for modernizing customs infrastructure from 2022 to 2028. Additional residential buildings for staff were also introduced.

Government representatives noted that the infrastructure update will strengthen Turkmenistan's economic ties with neighboring countries and support the development of the national logistics network.

Earlier, a new residential building with 32 apartments for customs officers was completed in Turkmenabat.
