The Asian Development Bank (ADB) plans to provide technical assistance for the project Integrated Renewable Energy Solutions to Support Green Transformation in Turkmenistan.
As reported by Trend on Friday, the project aims to enhance the country's environmental sustainability and develop its potential in transitioning to renewable energy sources.
One key aspect will involve creating a roadmap for implementing solar energy, including innovative solutions for urban areas, such as the smart and green city of Arkadag.
The project will include conducting technical-economic assessments and launching a pilot urban solar power plant. According to forecasts, this plant will produce over 4 GWh of renewable energy annually, leading to a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by more than 3,000 tons.
ADB notes that developing solar energy will help diversify Turkmenistan's economy and create new opportunities, including establishing green energy corridors from Central Asia to Europe.
The project also includes training specialists from the public and private sectors, as well as local communities, ensuring the implementation of modern renewable energy technologies and improving workforce qualifications.
Planned for 2026, this initiative represents an important step toward expanding the use of renewable energy in both urban and rural areas. The project will complement efforts to enhance energy efficiency and reduce the carbon intensity of the economy.
This initiative underscores Turkmenistan's commitment to environmental sustainability and modernization of its energy infrastructure.
