Turkmenistan, along with Russia, Azerbayjan, Kazakhstan, and Iran, has extended the ban on the commercial fishing of sturgeon species until 2025. The Commission for the Conservation and Rational Use of Biological Resources of the Caspian Sea made this decision during a session.
The countries agreed not to set export quotas for caviar and sturgeon meat next year. Fishermen will conduct catches solely for scientific research and artificial reproduction, as reported by Rosrybolovstvo.
To protect the country's fish resources, the nations will synchronize fish protection measures and breeding activities. The Russian side also proposed creating a Forum of Caspian Fishermen and publishing an annual bulletin for the Caspian Commission.
The ban on commercial sturgeon fishing has been in effect for the second consecutive year, with a similar restriction in place for 2024.
