Turkmenistan plans to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 by joining the Global Methane Pledge (GMP) and leveraging global experience in technological innovations and emissions measurement.
This initiative will also involve implementing digital solutions and computing services. A crucial step toward this goal is the use of the latest equipment at the gas processing complexes built at the Galkynysh field, which helps reduce harmful emissions into the atmosphere, as reported by Turkmenistan's official media on Thursday.
The country actively participates in the MARS digital platform established under the UN Environment Programme and emphasizes training highly qualified specialists for the oil and gas sector to address pressing issues in the energy industry. Developing scientific potential and fostering research and development in innovations for the sector is a key focus.
The gas industry remains the foundation of Turkmenistan's fuel and energy complex, accounting for more than half of the industrial production volume. The country actively searches for, explores, and develops new fields using advanced technologies at all stages of the production process.
President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov officially announced Turkmenistan's commitment to the Global Methane Pledge on December 1, 2023, at the COP28 climate summit in Dubai, UAE.
