Representatives of the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan held a meeting with their Iranian counterparts, who were in Ashgabat on a working visit from January 21 to 22, 2025. The main topic of the negotiations was the increase of cargo flows across the customs borders of the two countries, as well as the implementation of the Joint Action Plan for Customs Services for 2025-2026, signed on August 28, 2024, as reported by the press service of the agency.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the results of cooperation in 2024 and interaction at key checkpoints: Howdan-Bajgiran, Artyk-Lotfabod, and Sarahs-Sarahs. The meeting focused on improving the efficiency of customs control to prevent violations related to export and transit goods.

Representatives from both countries decided to enhance cooperation in the area of authorized economic operations, exchange information on violations, and organize joint events to increase the knowledge of participants in foreign economic activities regarding customs regulations.

At the end of the visit, the Iranian delegation toured the museum exhibition dedicated to the history of customs in Turkmenistan and visited the recently opened Control and Analytical Center of the State Customs Service. The working trip concluded with a visit to the Training Center and the International Customs Terminal.

On January 13, 2025, the third meeting of the border agencies of Turkmenistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran took place at the Artyk customs post, located on the Turkmen-Iranian border.
