A seminar dedicated to the launch of two new projects by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) took place in Ashgabat on Tuesday. These projects aim to develop cotton farming and protect grain crops.

Representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Environmental Protection, the Türkmenpagta State Concern, research institutes, and FAO experts participated in the discussions.

The first project focuses on implementing technological innovations for sustainable cotton production, considering climatic conditions. FAO Senior Technical Officer Artur Shamilov presented the project's key directions, implementation timeline, and expected outcomes. Participants discussed the prospects of cotton farming, scientific research in this field, and the contribution of Türkmenpagta to the industry’s development.

The second project aims to enhance the efficiency of protecting grain crops from pests, thereby strengthening the country's food security. The seminar covered the program's objectives, its long-term impact on the agricultural sector, and the expected results.

Turkmenistan joined FAO in 1995. Since then, the organization has actively supported the country’s relevant ministries, helping to strengthen institutional capacity, improve data collection, and promote the development of the agricultural sector.
