A new chickpea variety named Bagtyýar has been developed by scientists at the Grain Crops Breeding Department of Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Agriculture Research Institute, the Bereketli Toprak newspaper reported on Wednesday.

The Bagtyýar variety has already been introduced into production across all provinces of the country. It is noted for its high yield — between 2.5 and 2.7 tons per hectare — and its resistance to diseases and pests. The yield exceeds that of the local variety Ýerli by 0.6 to 0.7 tons per hectare.

According to the publication, 1,000 seeds of Bagtyýar weigh an average of 300 grams, which is 60–75 grams more than the local variety.

Based on scientific research, chickpeas are sown annually between March 1 and 10, with harvesting taking place at the end of June.

Sowing is carried out using special seeders, including corn-compatible models such as KASPARDO units.
